Deals and Drops: A Few Favorites

A new round of "all the things" is starting to drop this month, as the 2018 products start coming in. Here are some of my favorites, along with some of last-year's special editions that are on the verge of selling out. The Lamy Studio in Racing Green is already disappearing, and we're not even halfway through January!

  1. Aurora 88 Marte Limited Edition (via Vanness Pens). Pictures of the Marte doesn't do it justice. The red combination of the red "Auroloide" and rose gold trim is particularly striking in person.
  2. Platinum 3776 Shungyo Limited Edition Demonstrator (via Pen Chalet). How is this pen still around!? Only a fine nib left. One of my favorite purchases of 2017.
  3. Taccia Spectrum and Taccia Pinnacle (via Pen Chalet). Pen Chalet is starting to sell out of both pens in several nib sizes. These pens are a real bargain at the current price point.
  4. Platinum Nice Lavande (via Pen Chalet). This lavender/rose gold combination is also much more attractive in person, though it certainly doesn't look bad in the pictures. At least one nib size has sold out. There's also a pink version.
  5. Sailor Shikiori Inks (via Anderson Pens). The new Sailor Four Seasons "Shikiori" inks are in stock. I have samples on the way, courtesy of Anderson Pens. Look for something soon!
  6. Aurora Ipsilon Lacquer in Blue (via Goldspot). Gorgeous pen! I'm looking forward to trying out one of these.
  7. Faber-Castell Loom (via Vanness Pens). A great moderately priced pen. The gunmetal versions are by far my favorite.
  8. Pineider The Key of Heaven (Vanness Pens). I love yellow pens, and of all the Pineider's I've seen so far, this is my favorite. For those of you who don't know, Pineider is an Italian stationery company that's recently launched a new series of pens with Dante Delvecchio, formerly of Visconti.
  9. Montblanc Great Characters The Beatles Fountain Pen (via Appelboom). I think they nailed this pen, regardless of what anyone says about the moustaches.
  10. Opus 88 Koloro Clear Demonstrator (via Pen Chalet). Pen Chalet has the Opus 88 clear demonstrator in stock (in addition to the smaller "Koloro" pens). This pen holds a ton of ink, and comes with a well-tuned No. 6 JoWo stainless nib. The look is similar to the Delta Dolcevita Italian Technology Oversize, but without the $800 price tag.
  11. Yoshi Nakama Pens (via 18111/Etsy). This Gold Eclipse and Red Falling Momiji pen is absolutely beautiful.
  12. Build Your Own Leather Cover for Leuchtturm 1911 (via One Star Leather/Etsy). Have a favorite notebook that you use all the time? Consider investing in a quality cover from One Star Leather.
  13. Custom Modified Fude Nibs (via ClearPens/Etsy). Looking to try a Fude nib at an intro price? I've started to see pictures of these on Instagram, initial reaction is good.
  14. Kaweco AL Sport Rose Gold Limited Edition (via Amazon). Haven't seen this one before. Apparently made for the Chinese market.
  15. Lamy Aion (via Pen Chalet). The Aion is starting to grow on me a little bit, after my initial skepticism. It certainly won't replace the Lamy 2000, or even the Studio, in my personal rotation, but the nib is excellent.
  16. Lamy Studio Piano Black with 14kt Nib (via Pen Chalet). The gold Studio nib might be my favorite nib that Lamy makes.
  17. Lamy Petrol Ink Cartridges (via Amazon). Missed these? You can still get them, if you're willing to pay.
  18. Lamy Studio Racing Green Fountain Pen (via The Nibsmith). Dan still has the Racing Green Studio in stock, and he can hook you up with a gold nib.
  19. Lamy Studio Racing Green Rollerball (via Amazon). I've never seen a rollerball studio, but it looks nice. The Racing Green Studio is already starting to disappear....
  20. More Amazon Recommendations (via Amazon). Check out my Amazon store for more finds. I try to update it regularly as I come across items of interest.
