TWSBI Diamond 580 Iris Fountain Pen

from $80.00

The TWSBI Diamond 580 Iris applies the iridescent “Iris” finish to TWSBI’s classic 580 fountain pen, which features a piston ink-filling system and swappable nib units. By fusing the traditional mechanisms of the fountain pen with a modern industrial design, TWSBI has created an eye-catching fountain pen that is simultaneously appreciative of the past and relevant in the present. The Diamond 580 comes with all detachable parts, as TWSBI felt that it was important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen (though no disassembly is required to completely enjoy your TWSBI). Please note that the pen does not ship with ink, but can be purchased separately here.

The idea behind the TWSBI Diamond 580 and its predecessors, the 540 and 530, was to go back to basics and capture the simplicity and elegance of traditional writing instruments. In recent years, the development and modernization of writing instruments has resulted in traditional writing instruments, such as fountain pens, falling into obscurity. It was our goal to bring the past back to life by creating a traditional fountain pen that even modern day society can appreciate.

With each new release of its fountain pen models, TWSBI strives to improve on the small details:

  • Improved grip and end barrel section compared to the previous model, the TWSBI 540

  • 580 has increased ink capacity, about 30% more than the TWSBI 530, the first model

  • 580 has improved the smoothness of cap thread turning

A Quick Guide to TWSBI Nib Sizes, per the Manufacturer:

  • If you write small, go with an EF

  • For the normal writer, F is the most popular

  • If you tend to lean on a bigger font, M will be perfect

  • B is for statements!! Sign a check in B, write a header in B, do some coloring/shading in B

  • Stub nibs are italic in writing style (have a special card or invitation to write?)
