New Arrivals: The Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto Multi Pens!

July 2, 2024

My favorite gel multi pen of all time is the Hi-Tec-C Coleto, and I still have a long-discontinued matte-black Coleto Lumio (since replaced by the Coleto 1000 series) that remains always at the ready in my pen case. The Hi-Tec-C gel pen series is famous for its needle-tip in .3mm, .4mm, and .5mm sizes, and people love the Coletos because they come in a wide range of colors and the refills tend to be less finicky than the standard Hi-Tec-C Cartridge. I can regularly use a Coleto refill all the way to the end of its life without the pen drying or clogging up, probably because they hold less ink (with less opportunities to develop problems over time).

The end cap of the Coleto flips up, allowing you to slide in 3 or 4 refills, depending on which pen you choose.

As of this morning, we’re happy to offer Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto Multi Pens in three different variations, priced from $3 to $15. Note that the pens are sold without refills - you can customize this pen by selecting from the nearly three dozen different refill possibilities, including mechanical pencils and eraser units, and we’ve spent a considerable amount of time assembling some assortment packs so that you can test all the different refill colors before deciding how and whether to stock up. Options include standard colors, fluorescent colors, pastels, and metallic gels. Happy shopping!

I’ve personally always found the .4mm size the sweet spot of the Coleto line (and Hi-Tec-C Gel pens in general), but the others write just as well, with the .3mm slightly narrower and .5mm slightly wider.

Thursday Drops: New Pentel Mechanical Pencils, TWSBI ECO-T Eggplant Purple, and More!

June 27, 2024

Another big week in the shop! As we prepare to move into our new space sometime over the next month, we’re trying to walk the line between bringing in too many restocks/new arrivals that we will subsequently have to move, while still keeping up on the releases that seem to keep coming. This week we have one of my personal favorite mechanical pencils from Pentel, as well as a gorgeous new translucent purple TWSBI ECO-T that they’ve dubbed “Eggplant Purple”. In recent weeks we’ve also added a bunch of new gel and multi pen releases from Uni and Zebra, and restocked on the classic Jetstream Prime in limited finishes. Help us lighten our move and pick this stuff up today!

We don’t anticipate any disruption in shipping while we move into our new space (which will likely include an in-person shopping option eventually!), but if that changes I will be sure to keep you all posted with the details. Many thanks for all your support!

The Gentleman Stationer is supported entirely by purchases from the T.G.S. Curated Shop and pledges via the T.G.S. Patreon Program.

  1. TWSBI ECO-T “Eggplant Purple” Fountain Pen. TWSBI released their summer ECO-T, and it’s a gorgeous translucent purple. Available now in all nib sizes. TWSBI indicated that this would be a small batch so we’re planning on this shipment possibly being it for this particular color.

  2. Pentel Sharp Kerry Mechanical Pencil. The original capped mechanical pencil (1971!), the Pentel Sharp Kerry features a knock and an eraser incorporated into the cap, so you can post the cap on the back as you write and still have full mechanical pencil functionality. Don’t miss yesterday’s review.

  3. Uni Kuru Toga Alpha Gel Switch. This favorite mechanical pencil from Uni Mitsubishi features a soft and comfortable, yet durable, gel grip and now comes in both .3mm and .5mm lead sizes. Read our review here.

  4. Uni Mechanical Pencil Lead Metal Cases. Prefer a long-lasting reusable accessory to the stock plastic lead cases? Check out these metal refill holders, which come stocked with 40 pieces of Uni’s smudge-proof HB .3mm or .5mm leads.

  5. Lamy Safari 2024 Special Edition Fountain Pens. We have stock of all the Lamy special releases from this year, including the recently released “Pina Colada” and “Cherry Blossom” pens and pencils, as well as the “Pink Cliff” and “Violet Blackberry” models.

  6. TWSBI Diamond 580 AL “Iceberg” Fountain Pen. This cool blue color is stunning, and “glacier” or “ice blue” colorways are always a favorite. I wish pen companies kept this shade in the standard lineup.

  7. Zebra Sarasa Grand Vintage Gel Pens. We finally added a high-end retractable gel pen to the shop. The 2024 version of the Zebra Sarasa Grand features a redesigned body and the same great refill in nearly a dozen different vintage-inspired colors. Read my full thoughts here.

  8. Updated Stálogy Accessories. In addition to this year’s limited edition white Stálogy notebooks, we have accessories including the recently released stitched notebook covers, sticky notes, and more.

  9. Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter Organizers. We have a nice selection of A4, A5, and A6 Taschenbegleiter notebook covers in both leather and vegan materials, ready to ship! These covers are compatible with most standard-sized slim notebooks in the corresponding size, and the clips are removable if you want to carry fewer than 3 notebooks.

  10. Lochby Cases and Notebook Covers. We have most Lochby models in stock, as well as the Lochby Field Journal and Pocket Journal notebook refills that contain excellent, fountain pen friendly 68gsm Tomoe River Paper.

Stalogy removable calendar stickers can be transferred from page to page as necessary. To Do list options are also available.

New Arrivals: TWSBI ECO-T "Eggplant Purple" and TWSBI Diamond 580 AL "Iceberg"

June 25, 2024

This week we have not one, but two, TWSBI summer releases featured! First up: the TWSBI Diamond 580 AL “Iceberg”, which features ice-blue anodized components in TWSBI’s classic piston-filler design. Second is the TWSBI ECO-T in “Eggplant Purple.” This one strikes me as a particularly “summer-y” color because I have purple eggplants growing in my garden as we speak. According to TWSBI, the purple ECO-T will be a smaller run than other recent releases, so if you like the look of this pen, be sure to reserve one or place an order upon release. Any pens ordered from us will ship starting tomorrow.

Ice blue, “Glacier”, “Iceberg,” whatever you want to call it; It’s one of the most underrated stationery color schemes out there. Shown here is the TWSBI Diamond 580 AL Iceberg alongside the Lamy Studio “Glacier”.

The TWSBI Diamond 580 AL in “Iceberg” (which I’ll probably continue to think of and refer to as “glacier”) is in-stock and available to ship immediately. The Eggplant Purple ECO-T is in our shop with an official release date of tomorrow (June 26). Over the past month or so, we’ve restocked on most TWSBI models, including the 2024 releases, so if you missed out on an earlier release or want to check out the back catalogue, we have you covered!

The Gentleman Stationer is supported entirely by purchases from the T.G.S. Curated Shop and pledges via the T.G.S. Patreon Program. Many thanks for your support!

Thursday Drops: Exclusive Editions, High-End Gel Pens, and More!

June 20, 2024

The big news from this past week was the release of two new exclusive T.G.S. Collaborations with Newton Pens and PensByPasquale, which are now almost sold out. (There is only one remaining T.G.S. x PensByPasquale nib holder awaiting a new home.) We’ve also introduced a new line of high-end gel pens from Zebra: the Sarasa Grand Vintage, which come in nearly a dozen different colors with matching refills. And guess what? A new TWSBI!

I’ve been really happy with the reception for our latest fountain pen collaboration. Expect to see our engraved nibs on future pens!

We finally now have stock of the TWSBI Diamond 580 AL in “Iceberg,” which is a gorgeous glacier blue finish. Note that this is the smooth-textured grip (the “AL”, not the “ALR”) which some people prefer. TWSBI hasn’t released one of these in a bit. If this color appeals to you, we also still have some of the Lamy Studio fountain pens, ballpoints, and rollerballs in the “Glacier Blue” finish, which is one of my all-time favorites from that line. Happy Shopping!

The Gentleman Stationer is supported by purchases from the T.G.S. Curated Shop and pledges via the T.G.S. Patreon Program.

  1. T.G.S. x Newton Pens “Majestic” Fountain Pen. Featuring polished black and red acrylic and fitted with an engraved crimson nib, this limited run has sold quickly. Currently we have EF, B, and 1.1mm nibs remaining.

  2. T.G.S. x PensByPasquale Dip Nib Holder. I jumped at the chance to collaborate with Nicholas Pasquale on this hand-turned nib holder in a unique resin from Jonathon Brooks. These will ship June 24 (Monday).

  3. TWSBI Diamond 580 AL Iceberg Fountain Pen. Pale blue finishes always end up being favorites, and are in demand long after they disappear. Don’t miss out on this one as it’s a stunner.

  4. Zebra Sarasa Grand Vintage Gel Pens. These professional-looking gel pens feature a sturdy-yet-balanced anodized barrel and a wide range of excellent refills in somewhat unusual vintage colors. .3mm and .5mm sizing available!

  5. Uni-ball One F Gel Pens. Uni-Mitsubishi’s latest innovation, the One features darker/more vibrant ink in a larger diameter barrel for increased writing comfort. The “F” series adds a small metal tip to assist with the balance, and the “Earth Texture” collection has a truly unique look.

  6. Uni Jetstream x Karimoku 4+1 Multi Pen. Probably one of the best looking Jetstream Multi Pens I’ve seen to date, this features a matte ceramic-like coating paired with reclaimed wood for the grip.

  7. E+M Sketch Clutch Pencil. We’ve restocked on these popular clutch pencils from E+M, which come in a comfortable streamlined shape and some very attractive wood and brass combinations.

  8. Uni Metal Mechanical Pencil Lead Cases. A highly specialized piece of stationery kit, yet, but these mechanical pencil lead cases come in handy if you go through a lot of graphite and are looking for a secure way to carry around your refills. Each case comes with 40 pieces of Uni’s smudge-proof graphite.

  9. Uni Kuru-Toga Alpha Gel Switch Now in .3mm and .5mm. I didn’t think I was a .3mm mechanical pencil person, but with high-quality graphite and a good pencil, you can write or draw with very fine lines without worrying too much about breakage.

  10. Uni Jetstream Prime Limited Edition Ballpoints. The matte olive and matte black finishes are back in stock, along with the standard colors! Remember that if you want additional refills in different sizes, we have Parker-style Jetstream refills in .38mm, .5mm, and .7mm.

What’s your favorite Sarasa Grand color? You can probably guess mine.

New Arrivals: Zebra Sarasa Grand "Vintage" Series Gel Pens (2024 Upgraded Versions)

June 18, 2024

While the standard Zebra Sarasa gel pen has always seemed a touch too wet for me, I have enjoyed the more specialty Zebra releases, including the Sarasa Clip and other pens that can be imported from Japan. Even then, I was still surprised when I picked up a pen from the Zebra Sarasa Grand “Vintage” series to test early this year and it turned out to be one of the best gel pens that I’ve used in years. I actually enjoyed it so much so that we imported the entire line!

Zebra’s “Vintage” line contains some insanely good colors, like “Red Black” and “Sepia Black”. Some, but not all, are available in the .3mm tip size as well as your standard (for Japan) .5mm.

We now offer the Sarasa Grand “Vintage” gel pens in both .3mm and .5mm tip sizes, as well as the full range of refills. The Sarasa Grand is Zebra’s “upgraded” Sarasa barrel, similar to Uni’s Jetstream Prime and Pilot’s G2 Limited. Note that the colors refer both to the barrel color and the ink color (i.e., a blue-black pen will have blue-black ink), though you can of course mix and match by purchasing extra refills. Happy Shopping!

The pens we carry are the new (revised) version of the Sarasa Grand (shown at right). Zebra shortened the metal portion of the barrel slightly to give the pen better balance, and the tip extends further from the opening. I personally think the new barrel is a touch more textured. It can be somewhat hard to find a “professional” looking gel pen, and the brushed aluminum barrels on these pens still look understated even in some of the brighter colors.
