All Object Index packaging is cardboard and fully recyclable, which I love.

New Arrivals: Kakimori and Object Index!

September 17, 2024

Wow, that weekend was a blur! Many thanks to everyone who stopped by the shop this weekend to hang out. If you were there, you may have noticed that I spent much of my time photographing and listing all of these new arrivals from Kakimori and its sibling brand, Object Index, including several new Kakimori notebooks, the latest Kakimori brass nibs (including the “antique” finish), nibholders, and much of the Object Index range of pens and markers, pencils, and desk accessories.

The Kakimori brass nibs are now available in a new “Antique Brass” finish! Kakimori nibholders are also available.

For those unfamiliar with Object Index, they are a Kakimori “sibling brand” (or sub-brand, whatever your preferred term), which focuses on everyday stationery with a minimalist aesthetic. I’ve always loved parallel-style highlighters, which feature a chunky design and two colors with relatively precise tips. The Object Index versions are great, and the Modular Marker is a grown-up take on something I haven’t seen since grade school. Kakimori was kind enough to send me sample of most of the line, which I’ll be exploring in greater detail in the coming weeks.

The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized seller of Kakimori and Object Index. Please check out this page for details on our new physical shop, including public hours.

Thursday Drops: New Lamy Safaris, TWSBIs, Sunderlands and More!

September 12, 2024

**UPDATE: Come see us this weekend as our store is open! Hit the button on the sidebar or follow this link for location and hours!

Much of this week has been spent either shipping out orders or restocking our shelves with the new arrivals showing up every morning! This week we have Lamy AL-Star fountain pens, rollerballs, ballpoints, and mechanical pencils in two new colors, Sage Green and Autumn Pink, both of which feature black trim. We did an overview of these pens and how they fit into the overall scheme of Lamy’s 2024 special edition releases (including talking about our favorites). We also have stock of the new standard Safari release “Steel Black”!

Yesterday we passed the halfway point of selling through our newly arrived shipment of T.G.S. x Sunderland mk1 machined pens! I love this pen - it’s one of my favorite collaborations that I’ve worked on, and it was our first - and it brings me so much joy to see it go out to so many different readers and customers around the world. Finally, we have a handful of Irish Green + Onyx TWSBI ECO fountain pens in stock and ready to ship. Happy shopping!

  1. Lamy AL-Star Pens in Sage Green and Autumn Pink. Lamy released the second round of 2024 special releases, with two new shades that complement the “Fiery” and “Aquatic” AL-Star pens they released earlier in the year. As I noted in yesterday’s post, I find the Sage Green absolutely stunning and will be adding one to my own collection.

  2. Lamy AL-Star Mechanical Pencils in Sage Green and Autumn Pink. One funny thing about the Fiery and Aquatic releases is that Lamy only released a .5mm mechanical pencil in the Aquatic finish.

  3. Lamy Safari in New “Steel Black”. I’m not exactly sure how to describe this color, but Lamy’s new release in the standard Safari lineup is almost a black with blue/purple undertones, and distinct from the current matte (“Charcoal”) and gloss black options. We plan to start bringing standard lineup Safaris into the store, and this new one is the first to arrive! Pens and mechanical pencils are all available.

  4. Sunderland Machine Works mk1 T.G.S. Exclusive Edition. I’ve almost come to think of this as our “signature pen”, with its bead-blasted matte finish, DLC clip, and dark red section. You can read more about the design of this pen and why I love it here.

  5. TWSBI ECO Irish Green + Onyx Fountain Pens. TWSBI finally got around to releasing an ECO with black-plated trim! The combination of the black trim and dark green acrylic almost gives this pen a “stealth” look.

  6. TWSBI Precision Ballpoint Pens. The TWSBI Precision “technical ballpoints” simply won’t stay in stock. They take Parker-style refills, including the excellent Jetstream SXR-600. Matching mechanical pencils are also available.

  7. Lamy 2000 Pens. Last week we restocked on the Lamy 2000 in all of the various formats, including the fountain pen and the 4 Color Ballpoint Multi Pen that’s so popular.

  8. Lamy Vista Pens. Lamy doesn’t make clear Safari demonstrators other than the Vista, but this one’s popularity has endured over the years. We have the fountain pens and the rollerballs back in stock.

  9. Mnemosyne x Kleid A6 Spiral Notebooks. Two of my favorite stationery brands collaborated on this A6 Mnemosyne notebook with a green cover and Kleid’s signature 2mm grid ruling!

  10. New Mnemosyne Sizes! In addition to the Mnemosyne x Kleid collaboration, we have added additional reporter-style top-bound notepads in both A7 and several B sizes.

The new Lamy Safari "Steel Black" matte pens and pencil: It's almost got that same purple undertone as Lamy Black ink!

New Arrivals: TWSBI ECO Irish Green + Onyx Fountain Pens Are Here, Plus Official Store Hours!

September 10, 2024

TWSBI’s latest release, an ECO fountain pen in Irish Green acrylic with new onyx black plated trim, has arrived and is shipping! TWSBI has really experimented with their trim this year, including not only the new onyx black but also bronze and additional rose gold models. The Irish Green + Onyx is the first black-trim pen I believe TWSBI has done. Get yours now, or browse the rest of the TWSBI lineup!

Initial Store Hours Are Set!

I’m happy to announce that this week, the shop is open with official hours! To start, we will be open Fridays from 1-7pm, and Saturdays from 11am-6pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be by appointment, and Sunday and Monday we will be closed. Outside of the regular Friday-Saturday hours, please reach out through the “Contact” form on the site and I will get in touch to set a time when you can visit. Eventually we will have an online appointment system and/or a telephone number, and hopefully additional open days as we get established.

Just look for the tower in our commercial complex. Most Nashvillians can spot this from I-65. To see exactly where we are located in the complex,

A Short Video showing exactly how to find us in our complex. We are located in Suite 113, to the right of the building behind the old Picture Frame Warehouse location (which is now Flex Alarms).

New Arrivals: A Fresh Washi Shipment (Including more "Grown-Up" Tape!), Fixpencils, and More

September 3, 2024

Last week we listed a fairly large restock of many favorite washi tapes from iLootPaperie, including everyone’s favorite adults-only version. Also new in the shop are a new reading-themed washi tape, book-inspired vinyl stickers, as well as classic enamel pins with multiple themes that include snail mail, reading, and science.

We’ve also recently restocked on the classic matte-black Caran d’Ache Fixpencil, including a handful of the “Creative Nomad” sets developed by Caran d’Ache in connection with Swiss lettering artist Rylsee, which include a limited edition Fixpencil, a pack of 3B leads, an eraser, Fibralo and Fibralo Brush fibre-tipped pens and a code to access an online creative class taught by Rylsee himself. Fixpencils take a 2mm lead refill, which comes in a range of hardnesses and can be sharpened to a fantastic point with a dedicated lead pointer.

The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized Caran d’Ache retailer and carries a broad selection of Caran d’Ache pens, pencils, and inks.

Thursday Drops: Lamy Restock, Washi Tapes, TWSBI Vacs and More! Oh, and a Labor Day Special!

August 29, 2024

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks here at TGS HQ, and I’m happy to announce that we are fully moved in to our new space and excited to be able to welcome visitors during regular hours, starting in September. This coming Labor Day weekend, we will have the doors open Friday through Sunday, mainly in the afternoon. We currently have available for purchase all of the new Lamy Studio lineup and digital styluses discussed in Tuesday’s post, as well as full stock of most TWSBI models, various ink lines, and full restocks of favorite fountain pen friendly paper brands including Midori, Lochby, Nakabayashi, and Maruman Mnemosyne!

For this year’s Labor Day sale, and in anticipation of everyone heading back to work and school following what we hope was a restful summer, we are offering an additional 10% off all desk and reading accessories ordered online through Monday, September 2. Use the coupon code “LABORDAY” at checkout to claim your discount, and we are also offering a tiered promotion in which all orders over $100 will receive extra T.G.S. Swag (including our large holographic vinyl stickers, buttons, and more).

  1. Lamy Studio Piano Red Fountain Pen (14k nib option). The Lamy Studio with Lamy’s excellent 14k nib remains one of the best value propositions on the market, since it’s increasingly rare to find a gold nib fountain pen for under $200. The Studio remains one of my favorite writers overall, as I have a soft spot for the propeller clip.

  2. Lamy Studio Royal Red Matte Fountain Pen, Rollerball, and Ballpoint. The Royal Red Matte Studio evokes the old Wild Rubin release, which I sadly sold off years ago only to regret it immediately. Where the Piano Red Studio features a smooth lacquered finish, the Royal Red Matte Studio is, as it’s name implies, more tactile. Currently stocked in fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint formats.

  3. Lamy Noto Special Editions. The triangular Lamy Noto is a fun ballpoint at a price point even lower than the Lamy Econ that I reviewed yesterday. The Noto even comes in two special edition colors: Deep Blue and Chocolate, which sold out quickly when we first got them earlier this year. Now restocked!

  4. TWSBI Vac700R Kyanite Blue Fountain Pen. TWSBI’s latest Vac700R release has proven popular, following up on their multicolor anodized Vac700R “Iris”. Will we see more Vac700R releases like this one? I hope so!

  5. Caran d’Ache 849 Ballpoint Pens: Standard, ColorMat-X and Pop Line. This classic hexagonal ballpoint pen has been one of our top sellers ever since we opened. The matte-textured ColorMat-X and the Black Code editions are my personal favorites, though the “Totally Swiss” Swiss Cross edition is the underrated sleeper.

  6. iLootPaperie Washi Tapes. We’ve received a restock of iLootPaperie Washi Tapes, including tapes from the “Paper Airplanes” and “Airmail” series! Stay tuned as we plan to bring in more washi tape and other fun items from this brand to our new shop so that you can see them in person.

  7. Viarco Vintage Edition Pencil Sets. Made in Portugal, in one of the last remaining operational European pencil factories, Viarco pencils are a personal favorite since I love graphite that is not overly waxy and has a tactile feel to it. These pencils sharpen to an excellent long point. We have stock of individual packs of most of the vintage designs, as well as a large stock of the assortment pack in which you get a dozen of each style.

  8. Lamy Note+ Digital Stylus (For Apple). Lamy’s answer to the Apple Pencil, coming in at nearly a full $50 less. The Note+ is still a bit of a work in progress in terms of functionality, but it works quite well for basic writing and additional apps are being added.

  9. Lamy AL-Star EMR Pen. Those who do most of their digital writing on e-ink screens such as the Kindle Scribe, reMarkable, or Supernote will want to look at Lamy’s AL-Star and Safari EMR offerings. I generally prefer the traditional pen shape over the “Wacom Stylus” default style that many use.

  10. Lamy Safari “Twin” EMR Pen. The Twin Pen features dual writing options, including not just an EMR stylus tip but also a D1 ballpoint slot, allowing you to switch back and forth between a stylus and standard pen.

Come visit us in person at our physical location, located at 4320 Kenilwood Drive, Suite 113, Nashville, Tennessee! Hours this upcoming Holiday weekend will be from 1pm-6pm on Friday Aug. 30, from 11am-6pm on Saturday August 31; and 1pm-5pm on Sunday September 1. The Gentleman Stationer is supported by purchases from the T.G.S. Curated Shop and pledges via the T.G.S. Patreon Program.
