Curated Shop Updates: Christmas in October, and the BEST (or, My Favorite) Legal Pads

October 17, 2023

Several giant boxes welcomed me back from vacation, despite my best efforts to slowly ramp things back up! This week’s big announcement is the arrival of the 2023 Diamine Inkvent Calendar, which is in-stock and available to ship immediately. A big goal of mine going forward is to have more fun with pens and ink, so I’m planning to play along with Inkvent this year. Starting in December, I’ll be doing some sort of daily reveal of that day’s “Inkvent” color. (For those of you unfamiliar with Diamine’s now-annual tradition, the Inkvent Calendar is their take on the traditional Advent Calendar, only instead of chocolate, etc., the “window” for each day contains one of 24 12ml bottles of ink, plus a larger 30ml bottle on the 25th day.)

Clairefontaine Writing Pads, Huge Multi-Subject Notebooks, and More

I know what you’re all going to say - I just can’t get away from this lawyer thing, can I? But as you’ll read about in tomorrow’s blog post, one of the most common questions I get asked is for a recommendation on a decent legal-style writing pad. A personal favorite, in terms of both performance and cost-effectiveness, are the Clairefontaine “Pupitre” tablets, which come in both A5 and A4 sizes. (In addition to classic glue-bound pads, we also carry a top-bound spiral version of the Pupitre.) Finally, we now carry the BIG version of the Clairefontaine multi-subject notebook, featuring four different sections of colored Clairefontaine Paper - a whopping 112 sheets/224 pages.

New T.G.S. Stickers and Pins Are Available, and Details on Our October Promotion!

Three large pen shows in two months cleaned me out of T.G.S. Promotional items, including the stickers and buttons I normally carry. A major restock trickled in over the past five days, and we now have “Swag Packs” on offer once again, which include one coaster, a large 3” sticker, a smaller 2” holographic sticker, a button, and an acrylic pin featuring the T.G.S. Logo. (The acrylic TGS pins are available individually.) Patreon Members should check the program feed this week, as I’ll be posting some additional information - certain long-term supporters will be receiving Swag Packs automatically!

Also, starting today, certain orders placed this month will receive some of these new stickers and pins automatically as follows - no coupon code required:

  • Orders over $150 will receive a complimentary Acrylic Pin AND either a holographic sticker or one of the large 3” stickers, depending on availability.

  • Orders that qualify for free shipping ($75+) will receive one of the holographic stickers or one of the large 3” stickers.

  • All other orders will receive a free TGS button or 2” sticker!

Many thanks for all your support!

Thursday Drops: The Return of Clairefontaine Clothbound Journals, Roterfaden Restock Update and More!

October 12, 2023

This week we finally received a shipment of Clairefontaine Clothbound Notebooks in both A5 and A4 sizes, and I understand that a restock on the French-ruled Looseleaf sheets won’t be far behind! You can check out our full selection of Clairefontaine offerings here. The big news is that we can now offer these notebooks in three rulings: Seyes (French-Ruled), Lined, and Grid/Graph.

An announcement on Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter organizers: I’ve placed a restock order but these take time as the Taschenbegleiters are all made to order in Germany. For now, we still have at least one cover in all three sizes (A4, A5, and A6), all of which are available to ship starting this weekend when we return from vacation Saturday.

The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized retailer of all brands sold.

  1. Clairefontaine Clothbound A5 Notebooks. One of our original best sellers back when I first launched the TGS Curated Shop was the Clairefontaine Clothbound Notebook in French or Seyes-ruled. Not only are these back in stock, but we now offer standard lined and grid/graph versions as well.

  2. Clairefontaine Clothbound A4 Notebooks. In addition to the popular A5 size, we also offer this same Clothbound notebook in the larger format A4.

  3. Clairefontaine Top-Bound Reporters’-Style Notebooks. I’ve had a couple of requests for recommendations on top-bound spiral notebooks, and these Clairefontaine versions are excellent, available in multiple sizes.

  4. Roterfaden LB23 Taschenbegleiter (A5). We have one of the A5 Taschenbegleiters in A5 size still remaining from our initial order, which features the durable recycled leather cover. For those looking for a cover that feels similar to the “Danceflooring” material on the V19, you may want to consider this one as it offers a firmer surface than standard soft leather. I have this particular material on my A4, and it makes for a nice lap desk.

  5. Roterfaden LTD017 Taschenbegleiter. This light blue A6 Taschenbegleiter pairs the Danceflooring cover material from the V19 with a grey suede interior. It’s a very nice color combination for those looking for something in A6 size.

  6. Anderillium Inks “Lepidopteran” Series. The latest releases from Anderillium feature inks based on butterflies and moths (hence the name). This series might be one of my favorites - the browns and greens are all excellent colors.

  7. HMM Ballpoint Gift Set in Matte Black. These dodecagonal machined ballpoints from HMM (Human Made Method) Project have been surprisingly popular, and we are now able to offer this gift set, complete with a black leather pen sleeve.

  8. Craighill Kepler Pen. Craighill’s machined “Kepler” pen features a unique knock mechanism that’s been tailored to take the universal D1 refill, meaning that you can use pretty much any brand or type of ink you’d like in this pen, including a standard ballpoint; a low-viscosity hybrid ballpoint such as the Uniball Jetstream; or even a gel refill. The curves on the barrel make this one extremely comfortable to use.

  9. TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR Sunset Yellow Fountain Pen. While we have sold out of the TWSBI Kai limited edition, we have fresh stock of the Sunset Yellow Diamond 580, which is the latest in a series of outstanding yellow and orange releases from TWSBI this year, also including the TWSBI ECO “Heat” and the ECO-T in “Saffron”.

  10. TWSBI ECO Indigo Blue + Bronze Trim. Indigo/navy blue plus a warm bronze trim makes for a sharp color combination. This release was a bit of a pleasant suprise as no one (at least not me) expected it!

Curated Shop Updates: Laconic Tokyo Restock!

October 10, 2023

I’ll post a bit more later this week (albeit probably briefly) about the pens and notebooks that I’ve chosen to accompany me on my current vacation, but one brand easily got the nod: Laconic Tokyo. You can read more on how this system works here, but to briefly recap, Laconic makes a line of softcover A5 notebooks, similar to the Midori MD light series, in a variety of different formats and layouts with specific purposes: Undated Planners/Diaries/Journals, Productivity/Planner Ad-ons such as “To Do” and “Spreadsheet” formats, and Creativity/Life-Logging layouts. What I love about this system is that while Laconic makes their own slim covers, the universal sizing makes it quite easy to combine these refills with the cover of your choice. I currently have one of their undated monthly calendars in my Roterfaden A5 (you can see the exact setup in this YouTube demonstration), and they should also fit A5 covers from Midori, Lochby, or other brands of your choice.

You can view the entire range of Laconic Tokyo offerings here, with nearly all layouts of the A5 notebooks in stock. Many of the Bookmarks are in short supply, and we are trying to restock as soon as we can.

While we are currently on vacation, order processing shouldn’t be delayed by more than a few business days, and will be fulfilled upon our return in the order received. The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized retailer of all brands sold, including Laconic. We truly appreciate your support!

Thursday Drops: 2024 Traveler's Notebook Refills and Limited Accessories, Laconic Restock, and the TWSBI Kai!

October 5, 2023

It’s Planner Season! Whether you enjoy sticking with traditional dated calendars or prefer the flexibility of the undated calendar, we have you covered. This week, the 2024 Traveler’s Notebook inserts arrived in both Standard and Passport size, along with the “Traveler’s Town”-themed 2024 limited accessories, which you’ll recognize from the recent Traveler’s Hotel, Traveler’s Diner, Traveler’s Records, etc. limited edition sets. You can view these and the rest of the Traveler’s Company lineup here.

The TWSBI Kai features a deep blue acrylic with rose gold trim.

We also have a few remaining TWSBI Kai fountain pens, which is the latest limited release that will only be available in fixed quantities and then go away. (Personally, I think TWSBI should make this pen a regular edition, as the colors are great and people seem to love the format!)

The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized retailer of all brands sold. Please note that we will be traveling from 10/7 through 10/14. Orders placed after 12pm CT on 10/6 (Friday) will have a 3-5 business day processing time, depending on when the order is placed. As always when we are on vacation, we make up for the slight delay by including fun “extras” with the order. Many thanks for your support!

  1. Traveler’s Notebook 2024 Limited Accessories. Each year, Traveler’s Company releases a series of accessories for the Traveler’s Notebook based around that year’s theme. This year, it’s “Traveler’s Town,” and the accessories include clear plastic folders, pencil boards, and sticker packs that allow you to customize your notebook.

  2. Traveler’s Notebook 2024 Dated Refills in Standard and Passport. The Traveler’s Company dated planner refills are now in stock and available to ship! We have monthly, weekly vertical, and weekly + memo in the Standard size, as well as monthly and weekly layouts for the Passport size.

  3. Traveler’s Notebook “Olive” Passport Starter Kits. Passport-sized Traveler’s notebooks in Olive have been on backorder for some time, but we received a shipment yesterday! Standard size Olive notebooks are also available.

  4. Laconic Notebook and Planner Restock. The Laconic system has turned into exactly the hit that I predicted. We have stock of all A5 refills available for purchase once again, as well as the Laconic notebook covers in black, milky white and clear pvc.

  5. Laconic Style Bookmarkers. Sadly, I’ve been unable to reorder certain of the Laconic Bookmarker layouts but purchased whatever I could get my hands on. I will keep trying for a full restock.

  6. TWSBI “Kai” Limited Edition Fountain Pen. The latest TWSBI release is now available for purchase. We only have a few of this actual limited edition (non-numbered) for sale right now, though we’re told there will be at least 2 more batches before it’s gone, like the “Draco” and “Aurora” before it.

  7. Anterique Ballpoints in New Colors. We recently received a new shipment of the Anterique ultra-low viscosity ballpoints, as well as new mechanical pencils that match certain of the pens! All are refillable.

  8. Midori MD “Codex” Day-to-a-Page Notebook. One of our best sellers is the Midori MD “Codex,” a page-per-day notebook/diary/undated planner that is a larger-format version of the standard MD notebooks. Available in blank or dot grid format, with page headers that allow you to date the page (or not) as necessary.

  9. Stalogy 1/2-Year and 365 Notebooks. Lightweight Stalogy paper now comes in light grey grid and dot rulings, and these notebooks are favorites of both writers and planners alike. The pages are laid out with subtle date/time headers and margins that allow you to use the notebook as either a journal or planner. Also take advantage of these undated diary stickers that allow you to add monthly calendar functionality.

  10. Washi Tape and Pins. We recently brought in all sorts of fun new washi tape patterns and new enamel pins, with a focus on quirky stationery and snail mail themes.

The recently announced TWSBI Kai fountain pen

Curated Shop Update: TWSBI Kai Fountain Pens Now Available for Pre-Order

October 3, 2023

Every couple of years TWSBI releases a limited edition fountain pen that’s different from any of their standard releases. In the past, it’s been the dark red “Draco” fountain pen and the green “Aurora.” This week, we have the deep blue TWSBI “Kai”, featuring a blue-flecked acrylic with rose gold trim. As noted, the Kai is a limited edition, and only a set amount will be made will be made (though they are not numbered, to my knowledge). Pens are priced at $130, and available nib sizes include extra-fine, fine, medium, and broad. Pens are currently available for pre-order, and since the official launch date is tomorrow they will start shipping within a day.

The TWSBI ECO Indigo Blue + Bronze might be my favorite ECO release to date.

We also have additional TWSBI ECO Indigo Blue + Bronze Trim fountain pens, as well as a restock of the TWSBI Diamond 580 in Sunset Yellow.

2023 has been a great year for TWSBI fans so far, and there’s no sign of slowing down!
