New Arrivals: Uni "Pure Malt" Collection, Plus More Teranishi Favorites

April 22, 2025

One of the more common requests we’ve had is for the Uni “Pure Malt” series, which are pens that incorporate different woods used in Japanese whisky barrels. The “Oakwood” 4+1 Jetstream Multi Pen has been on my personal list for some time. We’ve added these to the shop along with the standard slim ballpoints that come available in both light and dark woods. We continue to have stock of other Uni Jetstream multi pen releases that incorporate different woods into the barrel, including the Karimoku 4+1 special releases and the “Bamboo” series.

We also have additional stock of the Teranishi fountain pen inks, including colors that have been out of stock such as Gentle Green, Lady Emerald, and Brilliant Mint. Despite how popular these inks are, we should be set for a while! You can check out this post to learn more about some of my favorite colors from this deep lineup.

The Gentleman Stationer is supported entirely by purchases from the T.G.S. Curated Shop and pledges via the T.G.S. Patreon Program.

Thursday Drops: Yamamoto Specialty Paper, Caran d'Ache "Black Edition" Products, and Expanded TWSBI Selection!

April 17, 2025

One of the more popular additions in 2025 has been Yamamoto Paper’s line of specialty Japanese papers, in which they sell packs and pads of rare and/or soon-to-be -discontinued Japanese Papers with all sorts of different properties. We plan to stock as many of these for as long as we possibly can. In addition to the A4 looseleaf paper, we have remaining stock of Bank Paper and Tomoegawa Tomoe River A5 pads.

The Pilot Capless Decimo comes in a wide range of colors, including some very nice muted pastels.

We’ve also added the recently released Caran d’Ache “Black Edition” pens and pencils, including a new “Black Code” Fixpencil and XL 849 Ballpoint! These have long been favorites, and it’s somewhat surprising that it’s taken Caran d’Ache this long to expand the Black Code lineup. Finally, don’t miss new additions of classic products, including Pilot Decimo capless fountain pens, TWSBI GO fountain pens (inexpensive plunger-fillers loved as ink testers), and the super-inexpensive (yet still excellent) TWSBI Jr. Pagoda mechanical pencils.

All of these and more are available in-store and online! Come see us at our physical location this week Thurs-Saturday. Check up-to-date hours here.

  1. Yamamoto Specialty Japanese Papers. We’ve fully restocked on as much specialty Japanese paper as we can get our hands on, including Soliste, Tomoe River (Sanzen and Tomoegawa), recently discontinued Bank Paper, and more.

  2. T.G.S. x Hinze Pens Taschenstift Fountain Pen. This version of the Hinze “Taschenstift” (German for “Pocket Pen”) features a violet “CrazyFiber” Micarta material, paired with a deep purple anodized section and a Lilac nib.

  3. Pentel Sharp Kerry Mechanical Pencils. The excellent, and highly pocketable, Pentel Sharp Kerry is back in stock in multiple colors! This mechanical pencil is unique because it features a cap. Check out our review of this unique mechanical pencil here.

  4. TWSBI Jr. “Pagoda” Mechanical Pencils. What’s the best mechanical pencil that $4 can buy? Probably this one, and I’m not sure it’s close. Available in 3 colors and .5mm or .7mm tip sizes, the Pagoda is a bargain that continues to surprise me.

  5. TWSBI GO Fountain Pen. Though it’s been around for several years, we’ve only recently added the TWSBI GO fountain pen to our offerings. Easy to clean and fun to use, the GO is beloved by ink samplers.

  6. Caran d’Ache Black Code XL Ballpoint Pen. Caran d’Ache has expanded the popular “Black Code” lineup to include a full suite of products referred to as the “Black Edition” which now includes a larger 849 ballpoint.

  7. Caran d’Ache Black Code Fixpencil. Finally, we have the Fixpencil with the matte black clip! The blacked-out “Black Code” version looks sharp. (Pun fully intended.)

  8. Pilot Capless Decimo Fountain Pen. We now have the Pilot Decimo - the slightly slimmer sibling of the iconic Vanishing Point - in stock. Many users prefer the Decimo’s slimmer profile, including those who struggle with the clip placement on the larger VP.

  9. Lamy Swift Capless Rollerball Pen. Lamy’s version of the capless rollerball has been one of the more practical additions to my own carry this year. Read more about why I like this pen in yesterday’s post.

  10. Uni Jetstream M17 Ballpoint Refill. Designed to fit Lamy M16-compatible ballpoints, we managed to source a small batch of these Japanese refills that incorporate Uni Jetstream ink.

We have all the mechanical pencils, multi pens, gel pens and more available to peruse in our shop!

New Arrivals: The Caran d'Ache "Black Code" Lineup Has Expanded!

April 15, 2025

For 2025, Caran d’Ache has expanded their line of “Black Code” products to include a new “Black Code” Fixpencil and an 849 “XL Ballpoint” - a more substantial version of the classic 849 ballpoint pen with similar dimensions to the ever-popular Caran d’Ache 849 Rollerball. These join the Black Code 849 Ballpoint and Black Code Mechanical Pencil in what Caran d’Ache is now referring to as the “Black Edition” collection.

I’ve been anxiously hoping for a Black Code Fixpencil for quite some time.

The “Black Code” ballpoint has been a T.G.S. hallmark since we launched in 2020, and the entire collection features a matte black finish with a matte black clip and matching black knock. The standard Black Code Ballpoint and Black Code Mechanical Pencil have also been restocked.

BONUS: We have a small stock of a much-anticipated Uni Jetstream refill available for purchase in the store. We’re not sure when/if we will be able to get more, but if the Jetstream M17 interests you, be sure to pick one up!

In-Person Store hours will be our standard operating hours this week! Please come by and say hello if you are in the area.

Thursday Drops: New TGS x Hinze Pens Taschenstift in Violet Micarta, Pilot Restock, Lamy Swift Capless Rollerballs, and More

April 10, 2025

The big news this week is the launch of the latest collaboration from T.G.S. and Hinze Pen Company: a micarta “Taschenstift” Pocket Pen in a material dubbed “Violet Tendencies"! We’ve worked with Hinze for over a year on a special Taschenstift model for this material, and have opted for a micarta pen that friction-posts the cap on the barrel rather than the standard design that uses threads. The pen features a dark purple section and Lilac anodized nib. All pens are hand-turned by Hinze Pen Co., feature hand-tuned nibs, and will ship with a mini converter to allow you to fill from a bottle. Retail price is $250, with a special price available for T.G.S. Patreon members.

The Lamy Swift Capless Rollerball (shown here in matte black) has been a favorite new addition.

We’ve dodged a bit of a bullet on price increases (for now) as many tariffs have been postponed. In any event, we’re continuing to increase our stock to ride out any future tariff-related volatility, and have received restocks of Pilot, Lamy, and more. We’ve also added some new products, including Clairefontaine Hardcover A4 Notebooks, which many have requested, and brought back the A7 Life.Unplugged pocket notebooks which will fit the Lochby Sidekick.

We are open this week, Thursday-Saturday! Check out our hours for each day here. Saturday is always the long day with 10-6 opening hours. I hope to see you all in person soon!

  1. T.G.S. x Hinze Pens Taschestift “Violet Tendencies”. Our latest release in collaboration with Dallas-based Hinze Pens! All nib sizes remain available.

  2. Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pens. We have additional stock of the Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pens in the matte trim finishes, as well as the black and blue “Carbonesque” barrels.

  3. Pilot Iroshizuku Ink. We are restocked on most colors of Pilot’s excellent Iroshizuku bottled ink, and we have them in cartridges as well as bottles.

  4. Lamy Swift Capless Rollerball Pens. One of my favorite new discoveries from the deep LAMY back catalogue, which I’ve never used until this year.

  5. Lochby A5 Field Folio and A5 Field Journal. The Field Folio adds a zipper closure to Lochby’s popular A5 Field Journal.

  6. Lochby Sidekick. This small wallet/notebook/penholder is sized to fit A7 notebooks, which we now have back in stock. See the entry immediately below.

  7. Clairefontaine A7 Notebooks. These popular two-packs of A7 notebooks are back! Featuring fountain-pen friendly Clairefontaine paper, each comes with one black notebook and one colored version. Colors are sorted randomly.

  8. Blackwing x George Harrison Songwriter’s Notebook. Developed in collaboration with the George Harrison Estate, this A5 notebook features 80gsm paper and comes with one exclusive Blackwing pencil unavailable anywhere else.

  9. Kuretake Ink Café Art Nouveau Fountain Pen Inks. These inks feature some of the prettiest box/bottle artwork I’ve ever seen, based on classic Art Nouveau posters and advertisements.

  10. Clairefontaine Hardback A4 Notebooks. These hardcover notebooks contain 96 sheets/192 pages of fountain pen friendly Clairefontaine paper (lined/ruled).

New Arrivals: The Most Nashville-Appropriate Notebook Ever? Blackwing x George Harrison

April 8, 2025

Ok, while this is definitely a niche product, I couldn’t NOT carry this in the store, right, given my location? In conjunction with the estate of George Harrison, Blackwing has released a songwriter’s notebook that’s inspired by Harrison’s famous hand-painted guitar, “Rocky,” and paired with a matching pencil that’s only available as part of the notebook set. Each notebook also includes stickers inspired by the paintings on the guitar, as well as a plastic guide that slides over a page and serves as a template for either a lined ruling or various forms of music notation, such as chord charts and tablature.

The Blackwing x George Harrison notebook sets are available this morning in the shop, along with a wide range of Blackwing products including pencils and sharpeners. Blackwing’s limited edition notebooks are always extremely well-executed. If this one doesn’t interest you, check out the Bill Russell notebook that serves as a companion to the Volume 11 pencils, as well as the oversized (A4-ish) Volume 574 Ledger Notebook.
