Introducing Nakabayashi Shredder Scissors!

New Arrivals: Nakabayashi Yu-Sari Sheets and Notebooks, Logical Prime Notebooks, Scissors and More!

December 26, 2023

Until the last year or so, Nakabayashi and Profolio were two Japanese paper brands that didn’t receive as much attention in the U.S. as their peers. Now, I count them among the top sellers in our shop. These notebooks handle fountain pen ink extremely well, and they also feature a broad selection of rulings, including multi-lined rulings similar to longtime favorite Clairefontaine Seyes.

You can read more about the Profolio Oasis in this post from last week. Today, we’re releasing a restock of the Nakabayashi Yu-Sari, Logical Prime, and Logical Air notebooks, along with Yu-Sari blank sheets in A5 and B5 sizes. Finally, don’t miss new additions to our desk and reading accessories store, including five-blade shredder scissors (perfect for those working remotely or in a smaller office), as well as new bookmarks with incorporated loupes.

The Gentleman Stationer is supported by purchases from the T.G.S Curated Shop and the T.G.S. Patreon Program. We are an authorized reseller of all brands sold.

Year-End Review, Part III: 2023 Best Sellers from the T.G.S. Curated Shop

December 21, 2023

This post is always the easiest year-end post to do because it’s straight-up math. For me there were also very few surprises: the items I thought would do the best were actually our top sellers, and I probably could’ve named the Anterique ballpoints and Caran d’Ache Infinite 888 pens off the top of my head. What surprised me somewhat was the popularity of the Lamy 2000, as well as how many Roterfaden organizers we’ve sold in so short a period of time. Stay tuned as we’ve already started on the buying for 2024. We also have several new arrivals from the past couple of weeks, including Profolio Notebooks, a Nakabayashi restock, and a fresh round of Caran d’Ache pencils!

The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized reseller of all brands sold. Check out the rest of our Year-End Review content, including Part I (Favorite New Acquisitions from 2023) and Part II (Favorite Products Reviewed in 2023).

  1. Anterique Ballpoint Pens. This one came as no surprise to me, given how many different variations we carry and how well these vintage-style ballpoints write. My brass pen in Pearl Grey is always with me, and I have multiples of the standard pens and mechanical pencils scattered around my various workstations.

  2. Laconic Bookmarkers. I’m continuing to look to resource the full range of the bookmarkers, because they ended up being insanely popular (as expected). For now, I’ve managed to get three or four of them in regular stock.

  3. Midori MD Cotton Paper. Apparently my favorite all-around paper for fountain pens is also yours. Midori MD Cotton Paper handles ink well and comes in several formats, including writing pads, notebooks, letter pads, and at least for now, even a “B-Sides and Rarities” Traveler’s Company refill.

  4. Lochby Field Journals and Refills. For those looking for a non-leather A5 notebook cover option, the Lochby Field Journal remains extremely popular, and the A5 refills continue to feature 68gsm Tomoe River Paper.

  5. Hightide Sandglasses. A TGS Classic! The 30 and 15-minute increments remain the most popular iterations of Hightide’s analog timing device. For more information on how I use these and how you can incorporate them into your routine, I refer people to this post.

  6. Lamy 2000 Pens. All of the various iterations of the Lamy 2000 (and recently, the Lamy Studio) have sold well, probably because it’s one of the best workhorse pens out there. Unassuming, reliable and with a timeless design, you can’t really go wrong with a Lamy 2000.

  7. Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter Organizers. Honestly, these would probably be No. 1 on the list if we could keep them in stock. We have a restock order in the works, and hopefully it will arrive in time for the New Year. We currently have a couple of A5 and A6 covers in stock, in limited color options.

  8. Traveler’s Notebook Standard Size Starter Kit. We recently restocked on the standard size Traveler’s Notebook in all colors except the recently released Olive version. Now is a great time to pick up a Traveler’s Notebook, especially if you plan to use it as your 2024 Calendar, as our dated Calendar refills are marked down.

  9. Caran d’Ache 849 Paul Smith Special Edition. The fourth collaboration between Caran d’Ache and designer Paul Smith tops our Caran d’Ache sales list for the year, as these editions always do when they are released. We recently received a shipment of the British Racing Green version, which is by far the most popular though all the colors are excellent.

  10. Caran d’Ache Infinite 888. One of the great unsung heroes of the pen world, the sturdy and inexpensive Caran d’Ache Infinite 888 features a standard ballpoint refill (the Swissride) that in my opinion rivals the Goliath. Now if they would only bring back the mechanical pencil…

New Arrivals: Profolio Oasis Notebooks and New Field Notes!

December 19, 2023

I have a thing for offbeat notebook rulings, especially things like Clairefontaine’s “Seyes-ruled” paper, the Nakabayashi “Logical” series, and now, the Profolio “Oasis” series. Available in three different sizes (B5, A5, and A6) and five different colors (Charcoal, Avocado, Wintergreen, Brick, and Sky), Profolio notebooks feature fountain pen-friendly paper and sit at a reasonable price point. They have a similar multi-lined/dot combination ruling similar to Nakabayashi, and the sewn binding allow for the notebooks to lie flat. These are available now, priced from $9.99 to $15.99.

Just (barely) in time for the holidays, we also received a restock of most Field Notes editions, including several of the new(er) limited editions and the full range of the National Parks series. Be sure to check these out as they make for excellent stocking stuffers and versatile options for gift-exchange parties.

Consider combining the new Field Notes “Streetscapes” edition with one of the limited edition Keith Haring x Caran d’Ache Colour Sets!

We will continue to ship right up until December 23, and are still offering pickup in the Nashville, Tennessee area for last-minute shopping. The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized retailer of all brands sold.

Anderillium Inks are available in 8-ink sample sets: Perfect if you’re looking for a gift for a fountain pen user and don’t want to buy a pen!

Thursday Drops: Stuff Keeps Rolling In... More Midori, Traveler's Company, and Craighill!

December 14, 2023

Despite inconsistencies with the frequency of scanned packages, we’re not seeing that much delay in delivery times, considering the volume of orders currently being shipped. We continue to receive new stock, and I plan to continue posting and listing new arrivals up until December 23 or so, when we’ll take a break for a couple days! This week, we received restocks on Traveler’s Company notebooks, refills, and brass accessories (including pens), as well as the full Midori MD range of notebooks and writing pads. Finally, we’ve received a shipment of Craighill pens and accessories, including bookmarks and pocket/desk knives.

The Gentleman Stationer is an authorized retailer of all brands sold.

  1. Traveler’s Notebook Starter Kits. We were running low on Traveler’s Notebooks for a while there, but I believe we now have all Passport versions in stock and all Standard colors other than Olive, which are on backorder.

  2. Traveler’s Company 2024 Diary Refills (Marked Down!). Now’s a great time to pick up a Traveler’s Notebook in the color of your choice and set it up for the upcoming New Year. All 2024 Diaries are on sale through year-end. Passport sizes available as well.

  3. Craighill Kepler Pens. These received a lot of attention at the San Francisco Pen Show, with their contoured grip and retractable mechanism that accepts a universal D1 refill. The “Vapor Black” finish is in my own personal carry.

  4. Craighill Caro Pens. I’ve been looking for a viable keychain pen option for some time, and I think I finally found it. Available in the same finishes as the Kepler pens, the Caro pens feature a spring-loaded snap cap that closes securely. I’ve been carrying one on my keychain, in my pocket, for a week or so without the pen coming loose once.

  5. TWSBI ECO Creme & Rose Gold Fountain Pen. This year’s holiday TWSBI release looks amazing - the rose gold trim paired with a muted creme acrylic is a great combination. We also have last year’s Jade + Rose Gold ECO-T available, which comes paired with a bottle of

  6. TWSBI Precision Fountain Pen. Can you believe I’ve never used the TWSBI Precision? I absolutely love this pen, which doesn’t necessarily match the other pens and mechanical pencils in the “Precision” line, but is an interesting departure from the standard TWSBI aesthetic.

  7. Kaweco Art Sport Fountain Pens. We’re now sold out of two colors of the TWSBI Art Sport, but still have both “Pebble Blue” and “Mineral White” pens in stock.

  8. Traveler’s Company Brass Bullet Pens and Pencils. These are top-selling favorites, and also make great gifts. I personally have three of the ballpoints stashed all over the place. If you’re a reader, they make great needle-tip ballpoints for annotation.

  9. Anterique Stationers Pens. If you’re looking for a gifts for someone who would appreciate a nice pen, but don’t know where to start, these ballpoints feature a vintage-inspired design in both brass and plastic barrels. Unlike the pen that inspired them, these are NOT diposables. The refill is excellent and back in stock.

  10. Anderillium Ink Sampler Sets. We are now fully restocked in the Anderillium Ink 8 bottle sample sets for all three lines, including Cephalopod (Squids and Octopuses), Avian (Birds), and Lepidopteran (Moths and Butterflies).

Oh, and there’s also been a Penco restock, including all colors of the newly release Perfection Light Mechanical Pencil, to match your bullet pen!

New Arrivals: Pocketable EDC Goods from Craighill

December 12, 2023

Craighill Co. is one of my favorite makers of boutique stationery goods and everyday carry accessories, featuring durable construction and a brass-steel-matte-black aesthetic that speaks to me. We’ve previously stocked the Kepler Pen (a versatile retractable click pen with a contoured grip and a D1 mechanism), as well as a range of practical desk and reading accessories that includes bookmarks and a hefty desk knife/letter opener.

Yesterday we added two new additions from the Craighill lineup: the “Caro” Ballpoint - a small pen designed to fit on a keychain and deploy from a friction-fit cap - and the “Lark” folding knife - a compact 1.5” blade that can either serve as a very small pocketknife or a utility “penknife” that lives in your stationery pouch or on your desk. As with other Craighill products, both are available in brass, stainless steel, “Vapor Black” (DLC-coated stainless steel), or combinations of the three.

The Lark, shown here, is roughly half the size of a Kaweco Sport when closed. (Lanyard with bead not included. I added that myself instead of putting the knife on a keychain.)

Many thanks to the readers who brought the Caro pen to my attention and asked me to consider stocking it. I’ve been searching for a keychain pen to replace one that I had carried years ago and either had to retire (or lost), and I never found a replacement. The body of the pen connects firmly to the keychain cap using a garter-spring, and so far I’ve had no issues with the pen coming loose in my pocket. As of this morning, we are also restocked on all colors of the Kepler Pen!
