We will be at the D.C. Pen Show! Details below.

A Mid-Summer Update from T.G.S.: Lots of Changes on the Horizon, Including a Brick-and-Mortar Shopping Option Plus Pen Shows!

July 10, 2024

Those of you who are Patreon members or who subscribe to the shop newsletter may already be aware of some of these announcements, but I figured it was time to update the general readership since we are now very close to our move date! For the past year, I’ve been searching for a physical location for T.G.S., and given rising commercial real estate costs in the greater Nashville, Tennessee area, it hasn’t been easy to find suitable space that’s also reasonably priced. As it turns out, we have a lease on a location, and will be taking possession towards the end of July.

This is an extremely exciting new development for us (me and my family, who collectively run T.G.S.), and will allow us to expand both the T.G.S. Curated Shop as well as the range of pen-related content we can provide through our various media channels. Currently, I don’t have dedicated studio space for photography and video, which necessarily limits the quantity and quality of content that I can produce. The educational and informational content we offer here at T.G.S. will remain a core part of what we do, and a big part of this move is about expanding what we can offer the pen community in that regard.

I’ve been attending multiple retail trade shows over the past couple of years preparing to expand the various lines of stationery we can offer, as well as partnering with manufacturers and brands on additional exclusive collaborations.

Will There Be an In-Person Shopping Option in Nashville? Yes! But Not Immediately.

As soon as we are able to move over our warehouse and office/fulfillment operations, we will offer in-person order pickup from a fixed location in the Nashville area. Once we take possession, I will post the address and pickup instructions here on the site, but I can go ahead and let my local customers know that the new location is near Berry Hill and central to most of the greater Nashville Metropolitan area. In the coming months - hopefully prior to the holidays - we plan to have a small retail area set up within our space that will allow people to come and shop our various product lines in person. Store hours will be forthcoming.

D.C. Pen Show Details: Come See T.G.S. In Person!

Due to the impending move, which is currently scheduled to take place the week before the D.C. Pen Show, we will not have time to assemble a full table’s worth of inventory for either the D.C. or San Francisco Pen Shows in August. That said, we will be in attendance, teaming up with our friends at Vanness Pens to help staff the new Vanness Pen Lounge in D.C.! The Pen Lounge will be located in the downstairs conference area below the main ballroom (which at past shows had been used as the “maker’s area” before last year’s hotel remodel. Stay tuned for further details as we get closer to the main event, but this space will feature an area for attendees to socialize, ask questions from a rotating cast of volunteers, and attend mini-classes and workshops throughout the weekend.

In addition to helping staff the Lounge, I will be hosting a workshop on notebook systems, and will have a small selection of samples from brands including Roterfaden, Lochby, Traveler’s Company, Midori, Laconic, and more. While I can’t commit to bringing items for in-person purchase, since our ability to restock inventory may be limited by the move, I will try to have a small selection of T.G.S. products available for purchase at the Vanness tables. Please let me know if there is something you specifically want to see and I will try to make it happen!

New Arrivals: More Viarco Pencils and Accessories (Including Violet Pencils and Pencil Caps!)

July 9, 2024

Viarco pencils have returned, and it appears as though this brand will be regularly carried by a U.S. distributor, which of course makes me very happy! Viarco pencils represent an excellent combination of quality and value, and are made in one of the last operating European pencil factories. The graphite sharpens very well and holds an excellent point for writing.

These spring-style pencil protectors are inexpensive and sold in packs of 8.

We currently have all of the various vintage-style pencils in stock, as well as the popular pencil caps and pencil gift sets, which contain a dozen of each vintage style for a half-gross in total. All of these pencils are HB-grade graphite, with the exception of the surprisingly popular vintage violet copying pencils.

Thursday Drops: Fourth of July Sale, New Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coletos, New Blackwings, and More!

July 4, 2024

Our annual Fourth of July Sale starts today and will run through Sunday evening at 11:59pm U.S. Central Time. Use the coupon code “FIREWORKS” at check out to take 10% off most shop orders. Some exclusions apply, including Pilot, TWSBI, Blackwing, and Roterfaden. Many of you know that we are planning a move to our physical location in the next month or so, and would love to not have to move inventory with us!

Several new arrivals also hit the shop this week, including the latest Blackwing Volumes Release: Volume 746, the Golden Gate Bridge pencil. This deep red (“International Orange”) pencil features a multi-layered matte barrel with a matching eraser, matte black ferrule and firm graphite. Between this pencil and Volume 2 (Let the Light In), with the extra-extra firm graphite, these are two of the better releases from the entire Volumes series. Single-step sharpeners, legal pads, and handheld erasers are all in stock.

All the Coleto Gel Refills!

As we announced Tuesday, we recently received a massive shipment of Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto Multi Pens, and all of the refills! The Coleto is one of my favorite multi pen systems, due in part to its low price of entry (barrels start at $3) and customizability (nearly three dozen gel, pencil, and eraser refills). Be sure to check these out and more!

Remember that all domestic U.S. orders over $75 ship free! No coupon code necessary, and this is in addition to any applicable discount.

  1. Blackwing Volume 746 “Golden Gate Bridge” Pencils. Featuring the same firm graphite found in the Blackwing 602, this could be my favorite color scheme of all time in a Blackwing Volumes pencil. We also have fresh stock of the Volume 2, which features the XX-firm graphite.

  2. Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto Multi Pens. One of my favorite multi pens of all time, the Hi-Tec-C Coleto features Pilot’s excellent Hi-Tec-C needle-tip gel refill in a multi pen format, and it comes in dozens of different colors. Mechanical pencil and eraser inserts are also available.

  3. Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter Organizers. While we can’t include Roterfaden organizers in our sale, now is a great time to pick one up and stock up on A4, A5, and A6 notebooks (all of which are compatible and included in today’s promotion). There are several “soft” A5 covers available, which in my opinion are the best option for those who want to use thicker Hobonichi Cousin-style notebooks with their Roterfaden, as they’re cut slightly bigger.

  4. Traveler’s Notebook Systems. This weekend is a great time to build out a Traveler’s Notebook with all of the refills and accessories! We received a fresh shipment of refills a couple of weeks ago and are fully stocked.

  5. Stálogy Notebook Systems. Stálogy released a limited edition white half-year notebook this year, which pairs well with the new Stálogy notebook stitched covers, made from a high-quality Japanese paper designed to be durable and long-lasting.

  6. Midori MD Notebook Refills. We have a wide variety of different Midori MD Paper notebooks in stock, including the recently expanded MD Cotton line which now includes standard A5 and Square A5 notebooks. The MD “Light” Notebooks are a great option for Roterfaden.

  7. TWSBI ECO-T “Eggplant Purple”. This particular TWSBI ECO-T features a translucent purple color that apparently will be in short supply. TWSBI keeps emphasizing how this one will be a limited run, so we’re not expecting much additional stock.

  8. TWSBI Diamond 580 AL “Iceberg Blue” Fountain Pen. Those who prefer the non-textured metal section on the Diamond 580 fountain pens will appreciate this release - it’s been a while since the last one. Ice Blue/Glacier Blue/Iceberg - whatever you want to call it - is always a popular color choice.

  9. Kaweco Piston Filler Sport and Art Sport Fountain Pens. We carry most Kaweco Sport fountain pens, and still have some limited stock of the Piston Sport and Art Sport releases from this year. The Art Sports feature some of my favorite materials from 2023 or 2024.

  10. Zebra Sarasa Grand Vintage Gel Pens and Refills. We’ve been looking to add some higher-end “professional” gel pens to the shop, and the Zebra Sarasa Grand Vintage features a wide range of work-friendly colors in .3mm and .5mm formats. Many of the “Vintage” series gel inks are black-infused, and

New Arrivals: The Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto Multi Pens!

July 2, 2024

My favorite gel multi pen of all time is the Hi-Tec-C Coleto, and I still have a long-discontinued matte-black Coleto Lumio (since replaced by the Coleto 1000 series) that remains always at the ready in my pen case. The Hi-Tec-C gel pen series is famous for its needle-tip in .3mm, .4mm, and .5mm sizes, and people love the Coletos because they come in a wide range of colors and the refills tend to be less finicky than the standard Hi-Tec-C Cartridge. I can regularly use a Coleto refill all the way to the end of its life without the pen drying or clogging up, probably because they hold less ink (with less opportunities to develop problems over time).

The end cap of the Coleto flips up, allowing you to slide in 3 or 4 refills, depending on which pen you choose.

As of this morning, we’re happy to offer Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto Multi Pens in three different variations, priced from $3 to $15. Note that the pens are sold without refills - you can customize this pen by selecting from the nearly three dozen different refill possibilities, including mechanical pencils and eraser units, and we’ve spent a considerable amount of time assembling some assortment packs so that you can test all the different refill colors before deciding how and whether to stock up. Options include standard colors, fluorescent colors, pastels, and metallic gels. Happy shopping!

I’ve personally always found the .4mm size the sweet spot of the Coleto line (and Hi-Tec-C Gel pens in general), but the others write just as well, with the .3mm slightly narrower and .5mm slightly wider.

Thursday Drops: New Pentel Mechanical Pencils, TWSBI ECO-T Eggplant Purple, and More!

June 27, 2024

Another big week in the shop! As we prepare to move into our new space sometime over the next month, we’re trying to walk the line between bringing in too many restocks/new arrivals that we will subsequently have to move, while still keeping up on the releases that seem to keep coming. This week we have one of my personal favorite mechanical pencils from Pentel, as well as a gorgeous new translucent purple TWSBI ECO-T that they’ve dubbed “Eggplant Purple”. In recent weeks we’ve also added a bunch of new gel and multi pen releases from Uni and Zebra, and restocked on the classic Jetstream Prime in limited finishes. Help us lighten our move and pick this stuff up today!

We don’t anticipate any disruption in shipping while we move into our new space (which will likely include an in-person shopping option eventually!), but if that changes I will be sure to keep you all posted with the details. Many thanks for all your support!

The Gentleman Stationer is supported entirely by purchases from the T.G.S. Curated Shop and pledges via the T.G.S. Patreon Program.

  1. TWSBI ECO-T “Eggplant Purple” Fountain Pen. TWSBI released their summer ECO-T, and it’s a gorgeous translucent purple. Available now in all nib sizes. TWSBI indicated that this would be a small batch so we’re planning on this shipment possibly being it for this particular color.

  2. Pentel Sharp Kerry Mechanical Pencil. The original capped mechanical pencil (1971!), the Pentel Sharp Kerry features a knock and an eraser incorporated into the cap, so you can post the cap on the back as you write and still have full mechanical pencil functionality. Don’t miss yesterday’s review.

  3. Uni Kuru Toga Alpha Gel Switch. This favorite mechanical pencil from Uni Mitsubishi features a soft and comfortable, yet durable, gel grip and now comes in both .3mm and .5mm lead sizes. Read our review here.

  4. Uni Mechanical Pencil Lead Metal Cases. Prefer a long-lasting reusable accessory to the stock plastic lead cases? Check out these metal refill holders, which come stocked with 40 pieces of Uni’s smudge-proof HB .3mm or .5mm leads.

  5. Lamy Safari 2024 Special Edition Fountain Pens. We have stock of all the Lamy special releases from this year, including the recently released “Pina Colada” and “Cherry Blossom” pens and pencils, as well as the “Pink Cliff” and “Violet Blackberry” models.

  6. TWSBI Diamond 580 AL “Iceberg” Fountain Pen. This cool blue color is stunning, and “glacier” or “ice blue” colorways are always a favorite. I wish pen companies kept this shade in the standard lineup.

  7. Zebra Sarasa Grand Vintage Gel Pens. We finally added a high-end retractable gel pen to the shop. The 2024 version of the Zebra Sarasa Grand features a redesigned body and the same great refill in nearly a dozen different vintage-inspired colors. Read my full thoughts here.

  8. Updated Stálogy Accessories. In addition to this year’s limited edition white Stálogy notebooks, we have accessories including the recently released stitched notebook covers, sticky notes, and more.

  9. Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter Organizers. We have a nice selection of A4, A5, and A6 Taschenbegleiter notebook covers in both leather and vegan materials, ready to ship! These covers are compatible with most standard-sized slim notebooks in the corresponding size, and the clips are removable if you want to carry fewer than 3 notebooks.

  10. Lochby Cases and Notebook Covers. We have most Lochby models in stock, as well as the Lochby Field Journal and Pocket Journal notebook refills that contain excellent, fountain pen friendly 68gsm Tomoe River Paper.

Stalogy removable calendar stickers can be transferred from page to page as necessary. To Do list options are also available.
